The History NJ Metals was founded by Nick Joy in 1994. The first workshop was a run down garage where Nick honed his skills as a fabricator. Slowly business came in and eventually slightly bigger premises were created, very long days and weekend working eventually started to pay off and more staff came along. Nicks approach to staff has always been to recruit people he knew and liked. Friends and family alike have all worked for NJ Metals, trust and honesty being keywords within a small knit and comfortable group. A chance encounter with a local police crime prevention officer came to pay dividends when NJ Metals promotional material was included in a police victim information pack. More work came in and larger premises were needed. The workshop and offices on Hawksworth Road provided a huge increase in available space for additional machinery and manufacturing capability. Still the work came in, to such an extent at times that existing staff couldn’t cope with demand. Again Nicks policy was to recruit from his family and social group.

Word of mouth has been the most reliable and consistent source of work, one satisfied customer leads to several others and so on. The police connection still brought work in which often lead to more work. Other than a small ad in Yellow pages NJ Metals have never advertised.
